Marriage Allowance lets a non-taxpayer transfer £1,260 of their unused £12,570 personal allowance to a husband, wife or civil partner who is a basic-rate taxpayer. The receiving partner pays tax on £1,260 less of their income, saving up to £252 a year. You qualify only if the lower earner's income is below the personal allowance and the higher earner pays the basic 20% rate (income up to £50,270).
