How Statutory Sick Pay works in 2026/27
From April 2026, SSP is paid from the first day of sickness (the old three waiting days were removed) and the lower earnings limit floor no longer blocks eligibility. The flat rate is £123.25 a week for up to 28 weeks.
Some employers offer enhanced company sick pay — for example full pay for a number of weeks — so check your contract. SSP is taxed like normal pay if you earn enough overall.
